Mission Statement

INSPIRE YOUTH!

Richfield Youth Sports primary mission is to inspire area young children to work toward a happy and successful life, by helping them acquire skills in various sports throughout the year for a friendly, healthy, and strong high school career, in a safe, supervised environment. RYS teaches responsibility toward themselves and others through practice, teamwork, and excitement of the game. This mission is for all of our futures who remain in this area for life and for generations, starting with children, and where ever they go from here. We provide sports programs, acquire fields and facilities for the programs, and subsidize low cost registration fees, partnering with our community sponsors and volunteers to create the opportunity to share this positive life experience, which parents seek for their own children, with all children in the greater Richfield area.

Capacity Statement

Richfield Youth Sports Inc. (RYS) inspires young children to grow into more active and healthy, responsible and successful, and socially adaptive happy people through sports. RYS children enjoy active social interaction and connections while developing athletic skills and love of team spirit. Playing ball with friends encourages them to work hard on their academics in order to remain with their best friends both on and off the playing field. Making new friends through these popular sports programs give them confidence in life and the desire to improve their own game where ever life may lead. Prekindergarten through sixth grade boys and girls sign up for: • Basketball in the winter, • T-ball, Softball, and Baseball in spring • Soccer in the fall. Teams are carefully put together for each seasonal sport to match age and ability for safe and challenging play. Structured practice, healthy exercise, and playing other community little league teams, according to league rules and school policies build successful habits, confidence, and social skills, along with athletic strength and abilities, to prepare young children for a great high school career. Our head coaches have years of coaching experience and are CPR and First Aid certified. Their day jobs are in a wide variety of professions bringing real world experience into building tomorrow’s positive sports environment, making the Richfield – Cooperstown – Owen D. Young area a great place to live for Otsego and Herkimer Counties. Young RYS parents/guardians have a chance to develop their roles in the community by stepping up to volunteer as assistants and helpers, not only for their own, but for the children of the community, inspiring confidence building enthusiasm for each athlete. They gain leadership skills while making RYS a central theme of home and young dreams. Affordable subsidized registrations bring 85 to over 100 young children to participate in RYS. Open to all area children, many living in poverty, the RYS board and sponsors want every child to have this opportunity to learn to follow their dreams. Practice and home games are played at the Richfield Springs School, Mercury Field—a short drive north into Herkimer County, and Diamond Dreams Fields—a few miles west on US20. A more central location is planned. Look for sign-up dates in the Pennysaver or on Facebook. Richfield Youth Sports Inc. (RYS) is an all volunteer non-profit public 501(c)(3) charity, endorsed by local governments and Richfield Springs School, a fun and important group for the whole family, and for the community family it serves.
